Job summary

Academics are seeking a Nursery Assistant to join a welcoming school in Berkhamsted for an October 2026 start. This temporary role supports Early Years learning and development under the guidance of the class teacher.

The ideal candidate may hold a Level 2 Early Years/Childcare qualification and has prior experience with young children. Candidates should be warm, patient and committed to safeguarding and welfare.

Qualifications

• Level 2 qualification in Early Years/Childcare or equivalent is desirable.
• Experience with Nursery or Early Years-aged children.
• Warm, patient and enthusiastic about child development.
• Good safeguarding and children's welfare understanding.
• Reliable, proactive and team-friendly.
• Must be able to commute to Berkhamsted.

The Nursery Assistant role

Working alongside the class teacher and Early Years team, you will:

• Support children with their learning, development and day-to-day activities
• Help create a positive, stimulating and safe learning environment
• Encourage children's communication, confidence and independence
• Support individual children and small groups with Early Years activities
• Assist with observations and maintaining appropriate records of children's development
• Follow the school's safeguarding, health and safety, and Early Years procedures
• Build positive relationships with children, staff and parents
• Help maintain a clean, organised and welcoming classroom environment

What we're looking for

The ideal Nursery Assistant will:

• Hold a Level 2 qualification in Early Years, Childcare or a relevant equivalent - desirable
• Have previous experience working with Nursery or Early Years-aged children
• Be warm, patient and enthusiastic about supporting young children's development
• Have a good understanding of safeguarding and the importance of children's welfare
• Be reliable, proactive and confident working as part of a team
• Be able to commute to Berkhamsted
