Job summary

Assystem seeks a Safety Case Engineer to join a major Defence programme in Glasgow. You will develop and maintain safety cases, design substantiation, and technical assurance documentation to support safe, compliant operations in a highly regulated environment.

Within a multidisciplinary team, you’ll manage safety submissions, conduct reviews, and provide expert guidance to project teams and stakeholders. The role offers hybrid working with 1–2 days on site in Glasgow and strong development

Qualifications

Experience reviewing Safety Case documentation in highly regulated environments.
Experience producing safety justification and assurance documentation.
Ability to provide expert safety case advice to project teams, contractors and stakeholders.
Experience leading safety reviews, workshops and stakeholder meetings.
Knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment techniques (HAZID/HAZOP).
Experience reviewing technical reports, calculations and engineering submissions.
Proven ability to develop safety assurance strategies for complex engineering projects.
Experience in nuclear, Defence or other high-hazard industries.
Understanding of safety case delivery, assessment and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

Author, develop and maintain Nuclear Safety Case and Design Substantiation documentation.
Manage design changes, concessions and technical justifications.
Present safety case submissions to nuclear safety committees.
Develop and maintain Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing schedules and procedures.
Support Periodic Reviews of Safety (PRS) and lifecycle safety case activities.
Provide technical advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
Produce scopes for Independent Technical Assessments (ITA) and IP Reviews (IPR).
Apply engineering expertise to support design, operation, maintenance in a high-hazard environment.
Review and assess contractor reports, safety submissions and calculations.
Contribute to safe delivery of complex engineering programmes for a Defence client.
