Job summary

Assystem in Glasgow is seeking a safety-focused engineer to support major Defence and critical nuclear facilities within a highly regulated environment.

You will develop and maintain safety cases, manage design changes and present to safety committees while providing expert guidance to project teams and external stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Experience reviewing and assessing Safety Case documentation within highly regulated environments.
• Strong background in producing safety justification and assurance documentation.
• Ability to provide expert safety case advice to project teams, contractors and stakeholders.
• Experience leading safety reviews, workshops and stakeholder meetings.
• Knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment techniques, including HAZID and HAZOP.
• Experience reviewing technical reports, calculations and engineering submissions.
• Proven ability to develop safety assurance strategies for complex engineering projects.
• Experience within Defence, nuclear or other high-hazard industries.
• Understanding of safety case delivery, assessment and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

• Author, develop and maintain Nuclear Safety Case and Design Substantiation documentation.
• Manage design changes, concessions and technical justifications.
• Present safety case submissions to nuclear safety committees.
• Develop and maintain Examination, Inspection, Maintenance & Testing (EIMT) schedules, procedures and associated documentation.
• Support Periodic Reviews of Safety (PRS) and lifecycle safety case activities.
• Provide technical advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
• Produce scopes for Independent Technical Assessments (ITA) and Independent Peer Reviews (IPR).
• Apply engineering expertise to support design, operation, maintenance and modification activities in a high-hazard environment.
• Review and assess contractor technical reports, safety submissions, calculations and engineering documentation.
• Produce robust technical justifications to support the authorisation of design modifications.
• Contribute to the safe delivery of complex engineering programmes for a leading Defence client.

Job Description

Join a major Defence client supporting critical nuclear facilities and infrastructure programmes within a highly regulated environment.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary engineering team, you'll play a key role in developing and maintaining safety cases, engineering substantiation, and technical assurance documentation that supports safe and compliant operations.

• Incorporated Engineer (IEng) status or equivalent experience
• Candidates without a nuclear background must be willing to undertake a Nuclear Introduction course within six months of joining
• Degree-qualified Engineer (desirable)
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (desirable)
• Experience within Defence, nuclear or other highly regulated sectors (desirable)
