Introduction

AWE is recruiting for a Nuclear Material Control Technician within our Nuclear Materials Control team, part of the Operations function. The role involves ensuring the processing, movement, and storage of Nuclear Materials comply with procedures, supporting the Accountable Nuclear Materials Inventory Holder, and operating accountancy systems.

Location and Package

Location: RG7 4PR, between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: £27,825 - £33,000 (dependent on suitability, qualifications, and experience).

Working Pattern

AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight. We consider flexible working requests. Please indicate your preferred pattern on your application.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure processing, movements, and storage of Nuclear Materials follow procedures.
  • Assist the Accountable Nuclear Materials Inventory Holder.
  • Promote high standards in environment, safety, health, security, and quality.
  • Operate Nuclear Materials accountancy systems and produce related reports.
  • Be prepared to undertake shift work if required.
Candidate Requirements

Essential skills and experience include:

  • Good organisational, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in operational, high-hazard, regulated environments.
  • Minimum GCSE grade C/4 in Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Methodical work approach with attention to detail.
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Knowledge of basic health and safety practices.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Desirable skills include:

  • Knowledge of inventory control, storage, handling, and movement of radioactive/hazardous materials.
  • Knowledge of radiological and criticality safety hazards.
  • Experience in engineering or manufacturing environments.

Ability to work calmly in a changing environment, with initiative, enthusiasm, flexibility, and the capacity to meet tight deadlines.
