Job summary

AECOM in Warrington is recruiting a Civil & Structural Engineering Apprentice to join our Nuclear Structures team. The role includes supporting consultancy services, assisting in designs, and attending university courses 1 day per week for four years to achieve a Beng (Hons) in Civil Engineering.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 GCSEs grade 4/C or above in GCSE English Language and Mathematics (or an equivalent qualification).
• Three A-levels (or equivalent qualifications) at grades ABB; Maths at grade B and one additional science subject at grade B or above.
• International Baccalaureate (IB): minimum 32 points, HL5 in Mathematics (Analysis and Approaches) and HL5 in another science subject; SL7 in IB Mathematics acceptable with HL5 in Physics.
• BTEC Extended Diploma (DDM) in relevant engineering/related subjects.
• T Level (Distinction) in suitable engineering pathway.
• Full UK driving license or equivalent; some travel to site may be required.

Responsibilities

• Supporting the delivery of consultancy services on nuclear energy engineering projects.
• Supporting the preparation and analysis of structural element designs in steel and concrete.
• Assist in preparation of design documentation such as basis of design, design method statements, specifications/technical reports.
• Developing an understanding of highly regulated industries.
• Developing an understanding of Safety Cases and the supporting documentation.
• Developing an understanding of risk and the preparation of designer’s risk assessments.
• Working with the project team, translating working designs into construction drawings.
• Assist in providing support into the input of feasibility level studies for nuclear energy projects with wider AECOM teams.
• Assisting in securing work with nuclear energy developers and their supply chain.
• Occasional site visits to construction sites would be a feature of this role.
• Attend University on average 1 day per week for 4 years to gain a Beng (Hons) Civil Engineering.
