Job summary

Prospero Teaching is seeking passionate Teaching Assistants to support learning in an inspirational SEN School in North Shields. The role is full-time and starts ASAP, with a contract until the end of the academic year in July 2027.

You will work 1:1 and in small groups with pupils across the 2-19 age range, many presenting with SEN such as ASD, ADHD, PMLD, MLD and SEMH. Some pupils may require personal care, so you should be comfortable supporting in those contexts.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children in UK schools.
• Right to work in the UK.
• DBS certificate or willingness to apply for update via online service.
• Two professional child-related references from the last two years.
• A Supporting Teaching and Learning or Childcare-based Qualification (desirable).

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with varied SEN on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
• Assist pupils with SEN such as ASD, ADHD, PMLD, MLD and SEMH.
• Assist with personal care where required.
• Collaborate with class teachers and colleagues to tailor learning approaches.

About the Role:

• The role will involve supporting pupils with varied SEN and challenging behaviour on both a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
• The School supports pupils with a range of SEN such as varying levels of ASD, ADHD, PMLD, MLD and SEMH
• Additionally, some pupils may be none-verbal and some may require Personal Care so a willingness to support pupils in these contexts is key.
• A key part of the role will be to develop an understanding of the different needs and learning styles of different pupils within the classroom, working closely alongside Class Teachers and colleagues to establish this.

Experience/Qualifications and Requirements:

• A Supporting Teaching and Learning or Childcare-based Qualification (desired)
• Experience of working with Children in Schools in the UK
• An ability to build positive relationships and a rapport with pupils and staff.

• Hold Right to Work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
• Provide two professional child related references that cover the last two years
