Job summary

Prospero Teaching in North Shields is seeking a proactive SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils with a range of SEN. The role is full-time and starts ASAP, until the end of the academic year July 2027, based in a SEN school across North Shields.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils with varied SEN on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
• Assist pupils with ASD, ADHD, PMLD, MLD and SEMH as needed.
• Be willing to support pupils in personal care when required.
• Collaborate with Class Teachers and colleagues to adapt learning approaches.

About the Role:

• The role will involve supporting pupils with varied SEN and challenging behaviour on both a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
• The School supports pupils with a range of SEN such as varying levels of ASD, ADHD, PMLD, MLD and SEMH
• Additionally, some pupils may be none-verbal and some may require Personal Care so a willingness to support pupils in these contexts is key.
• A key part of the role will be to develop an understanding of the different needs and learning styles of different pupils within the classroom, working closely alongside Class Teachers and colleagues to establish this.

Experience/Qualifications and Requirements:

• A Supporting Teaching and Learning or Childcare-based Qualification (desired)
• Experience of working with Children in Schools in the UK
• An ability to build positive relationships and a rapport with pupils and staff.
• A resilient, proactive, and positive nature
• Hold Right to Work in the UK
• Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
• Provide two professional child related references that cover the last two years
