Job summary

Chevron Traffic Management is recruiting for a Night Shift Operative/Foreman in Newport. The role involves installing and operating traffic management devices, leading a crew, and ensuring safe, timely delivery of works on high-speed schemes.

Flexible night hours with weekend work when required. Qualified operatives with Chapter 8 knowledge and IPV driving capability are preferred; a full UK licence with ≤6 points is essential.

Qualifications

  • Qualifications: 12AB, 12b LTMO or 12a Traffic Management Foreman qualification
  • IPV qualification required where applicable
  • Driving licence with no more than 6 points; bans expired ≥5 years ago

Responsibilities

  • Installing, maintaining, and removing traffic management equipment (cones, signs, barriers, lights)
  • Driving and operating IPV vehicles where qualified
  • Leading or supporting a crew to ensure safe and efficient delivery of work
  • Setting up/ managing lane closures, road closures, and diversions
  • Carrying out site checks per Chapter 8 regulations
  • Communicating with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Completing traffic counts, reports and near-miss documentation
  • Ensuring health and safety compliance at all times
  • Mentoring trainees and new team members
  • Assisting supervisors to deliver projects on time

Education

IPV qualification

Hours: Night shifts - must be flexible to work weekends if and when required.

Your role across our Traffic Management Team

Your Responsibilities May Include
  • Installing, maintaining, and removing traffic management equipment (cones, signs, barriers, and lights)

  • Setting up and managing lane closures, road closures, and diversion routes
  • Carrying out site checks in line with Chapter 8 regulations
  • Communicating with clients, subcontractors, and internal teams
  • Completing traffic counts, reports, and near‑miss documentation
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards at all times
  • Supporting and mentoring trainees and new team members
  • Assisting supervisors and managers to ensure projects are delivered on time
What are we looking for?
  • Qualifications: 12AB, 12b LTMO or 12a Traffic Management Foreman qualification
  • Knowledge: Familiarity with Chapter 8 regulations
  • Driving Licence: Full licence with no more than 6 points. Any driving bans must have expired at least 5 years ago
  • Testing: Must pass a drug and alcohol test (offer contingent on results)
  • Attitude: Positive, “can‑do” mindset
  • Skills: Adaptability, flexibility, and meticulous attention to detail
  • IPV qualification
  • HGV licence
