Job summary

DHU 111 (East Midlands) is recruiting a clinical advisor for the NHS 111 telephone service. The role involves assessing callers using NHS Pathways, advising self-care, and referring to appropriate care pathways, with duties including coaching health advisors and maintaining records.

Applicants must hold NMC adult registration or be a registered pharmacist/paramedic, with at least two years post-registration experience, and be available for evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

Qualifications

• NMC registration (adult) or equivalent pharmacist/paramedic status.
• Minimum two years post-registration clinical experience.
• Experience in independent practice and multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Assess callers by telephone using NHS Pathways and other clinical decision support.
• Provide evidence-based self-care advice and appropriate referrals.
• Negotiate action plans with patients and empower informed decisions.
• Offer clinical guidance to health advisors and colleagues on the advice line.
• Keep accurate patient records and manage calls professionally.
• Identify safeguarding concerns and report to the relevant agencies.
• Engage in clinical governance, quality improvement, and Datix reporting.
• Complete NHS Pathways training and mentor others through coaching.
• Maintain registration and ongoing professional development.
• Participate in supervision, performance reviews and mandatory training.
• Communicate with DHU staff and external agencies while protecting data.
• Escalate unresolved issues to the manager before leaving shift.
