Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking a Newly Qualified Architect to join a friendly, RIBA-chartered practice in Oxfordshire. You will contribute to conservation and heritage projects, developing technical and design skills from concept to completion.

You will work within a collaborative team, producing drawings and documentation while applying sustainable design principles to improve the performance and longevity of historic buildings.

Qualifications

  • ARB registration and RIBA qualification, or recently achieved professional qualification.
  • Experience in UK-based architectural practice, ideally with conservation exposure.
  • Interest in historic buildings and sustainable architectural design.
  • Strong design and technical abilities with sensitivity to repair/adaptation of historic buildings.
  • Experience across project stages from concept to construction.
  • Proficient in AutoCAD with ability to produce accurate drawings and details.
  • Understanding of UK planning, building regulations and conservation requirements.
  • Strong communication, organisational and teamwork skills; able to collaborate with clients and consultants.
  • Full, clean driving licence and ability to travel within Oxfordshire region advisable.

Responsibilities

  • Support projects across RIBA stages from feasibility through to construction.
  • Develop creative and sensitive proposals for historic and existing buildings.
  • Produce high-quality architectural drawings, technical information and presentation material.
  • Assist with conservation, repair, restoration and sensitive adaptation projects.
  • Apply sustainable design principles to improve performance of existing buildings.
  • Work closely with senior architects, clients, consultants and contractors.
  • Assist with planning, listed building and other relevant applications.
  • Support project delivery with programmes, specifications and coordination; gain construction-stage experience.
  • Develop understanding of conservation principles, planning requirements and technical challenges of historic buildings.
  • Take an active role in design development and learning from experienced team members.
