Job summary

Lawes Consulting Group is seeking an experienced Development Underwriter in the Glasgow area to manage and develop a portfolio of SME new business, with a strong emphasis on broker engagement and high-quality underwriting.

The role requires operating within delegated authority, delivering timely decisions, supporting brokers and internal teams, and upholding Treating Customers Fairly and regulatory standards. A proactive approach to process improvement and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years’ underwriting experience within commercial insurance (property/casualty).
• Cert CII or working towards ACII.
• Experience within a delegated authority environment.
• Advanced progression toward ACII preferred.
• Strong broker engagement and service orientation.

Responsibilities

• Underwrite new business quotations across commercial products in line with appetite and SLAs.
• Handle broker/internal queries efficiently and professionally.
• Maintain regular communication with Business Development Managers to strengthen broker relationships.
• Act as a referral point for colleagues with lower underwriting authority.
• Collaborate with the wider team to meet SLAs and service standards.
• Respond to broker calls in a professional, friendly, and solutions-focused manner.
• Operate within delegated underwriting authority and internal guidelines, escalating when needed.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes and contribute to wider business goals.
• Ensure compliance with Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) and regulatory expectations.
