Job summary

Maxwell Stephens Recruitment is supporting a rapidly growing FM provider in appointing a National Operations Director – Soft Services. Based from Birmingham with regular national travel, this senior role shapes operational strategy, leads a dispersed team, and drives performance across a large national portfolio.

You will work closely with the senior leadership to deliver excellence, maintain strong on-site presence with teams and clients, and oversee KPIs, reporting and peak-period planning.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years in facilities services operational management, with accountability for large operations.
• Experience leading large, geographically dispersed teams across multiple sites.
• Proven track record in soft services, cleaning or FM operations.
• Strong commercial awareness with ability to manage profitability and performance.
• Excellent client-facing and stakeholder management skills.
• Hands-on leadership with on-site presence and team development.
• Ability to operate at senior leadership level and drive growth.
• Flexible to work extended hours during peak periods.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a national operational team (5 SFM Ops Managers, 3 Regional Managers).
• Drive performance against KPIs: profitability, customer satisfaction, productivity, service quality.
• Develop and implement operational strategy with the senior leadership team.
• Build long-term relationships with key client stakeholders.
• Oversee recruitment, workforce management and operational compliance.
• Produce monthly contract and operational reports for leadership review.
• Support planning and delivery of significant seasonal peak periods.
