Job summary

Mitie is seeking a Multi‑Skilled Technician (Electrical Bias) in Newcastle upon Tyne to join their Estates Maintenance team. You will perform planned maintenance, fault diagnosis, and calibration of electrical systems within a complex healthcare environment.

The role requires an electrical engineering apprenticeship and 18th Edition wiring regs with testing qualifications. A 4 on/4 off shift pattern is in place, with a focus on safety, documentation, and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Completion of an electrical engineering apprenticeship (City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
• IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) with City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and breakdown repair of electrical building services plant and equipment.
• Perform emergency lighting testing to BS EN 5266 and fixed wire testing to BS 7671.
• Conduct lightning protection testing to BS EN 62305 and rectify faults.
• Respond to reactive maintenance and carry out electrical isolations for contractors.
• Support fire alarm testing and multi‑trade activities while maintaining records.

HOURS: 38.5 hours per week – 4 on / 4 off shift pattern (12‑hour shifts)

LOCATION: Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 4LP

Role Responsibilities

• Undertake planned preventative maintenance (PPM), servicing, testing, fault diagnosis, repair, and calibration of electrical and associated building services plant and equipment.
• Carry out emergency lighting testing to BS EN 5266, fixed wire testing to BS 7671, and lightning protection testing to BS EN 62305, rectifying faults as required.
• Respond promptly to reactive maintenance and breakdown requests and carry out electrical isolations for specialist contractors.
• Participate in weekly fire alarm testing and support wider Estates Maintenance team activities through flexible, multi‑trade working.
• Work safely and in full compliance with Trust and departmental Health & Safety procedures, maintaining accurate estates records, asset data, and plant history.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must meet the below defined requirements for the role:

• Completion of a recognised engineering apprenticeship with City & Guilds, BTEC, NVQ Level 3, or equivalent in an electrical engineering discipline.
• IEE 18th Edition Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) with City & Guilds 2391 (Inspection & Testing) or equivalent.
