Job summary

Mears Group PLC in Ilford is seeking a Multi Skilled Operative to carry out a range of property maintenance tasks across tenanted properties. You will perform painting, plastering, brickwork, carpentry, tiling, and plumbing to deliver high-quality repairs and installations.

The role is full-time and permanent, 42.5 hours per week (8-5, Monday to Friday). Salary up to £38,703.26 per annum plus a company van, fuel card, and out-of-hours rota.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in domestic repairs and maintenance.
• Core trades in Carpentry or Plumbing.
• Experience in Plastering, Tiling, Decorating, Ground Works.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent customer service in occupied homes.
• Good understanding of health and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs across occupied social housing properties.
• Painting full rooms including ceilings, walls, doors and pipework.
• Patch repairs, plasterboard installation, skimming and hole repairs; dot and dab for plasterboard.
• General brick repairs, pointing and minor concrete works.
• Cleaning and treating mould-affected areas.
• Installing bath panels, skirting boards, kitchen cabinets, boxing in pipework, and banisters.
• Wall tiling in bathrooms and kitchens.
• Removal and replacement of silicone in bathrooms.
• Reinstating grass areas and reseeding.
• Minor plumbing repairs including drainage, unblocking sinks, and ball valve replacements.
• Ensuring all repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
• Reporting any further works, safeguarding concerns, or property issues beyond scope
• Deliver excellent customer service while working in residents' homes
• Accurately record job details, materials used, and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets
• Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in good working order
• Manage daily workload efficiently to meet service level targets

Role Criteria

• Proven experience in domestic repairs and maintenance.
• Core trade in Carpentry or Plumbing
• Experience in Plastering, Tiling, Decorating Mould Wash and Ground Works
• Full UK driving licence
• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• Excellent customer service skills, with experience working in occupied homes
• Good understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices
• Ability to use handheld devices or job management systems to record work
