Job summary

Mears Group is seeking a Multi Skilled Operative to carry out a range of property maintenance tasks across tenanted homes in Durham. You will work across carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling and decorating to deliver high-quality repairs.

You’ll use handheld devices for job records and operate within health and safety guidelines. The role offers a full-time permanent contract with a 42.5-hour week, a company van and fuel card, and a strong emphasis on customer service while working in

Qualifications

  • Experience across carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling and decorating in domestic repairs.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs across tenanted social housing properties.
  • Replace or repair skirting boards, architraves, and internal door frames.
  • Install and adjust kitchen units, worktops, and cupboard doors.
  • Repair or replace internal doors, handles, locks, and hinges.
  • Identify and fix minor plumbing issues such as leaks, dripping taps, and blocked sinks.
  • Carry out patch plastering and making good damaged walls or ceilings.
  • Complete wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing.
  • Paint and decorate to a professional finish following repair works.
  • Ensure repairs are completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
  • Work in occupied properties with residents’ needs and privacy in mind.
  • Record job details, materials used and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and company vehicle in good working order.
  • Manage daily workload to meet service targets.

Multi Skilled Operative

Location: Durham

Contract: Full Time Permanent

Salary up to £44.232.30 per annum, plus, company van & fuel card

42.5 hours per week (8-5 Monday- Friday)

A bit about our branch,the North Task Team (Based in Durham) along with our South Team (Based in Essex) Our team helps mobilise, demobilise and support contracts throughout the whole of Mears, we provide support for contracts that are understaffed, have works in progress that need reducing. We mainly carry out repairs on Day to Day/Response works, but we are occasionally used for Voids and Planned also. This means we can work on any contract within Mears who needs assistance with staying away/travelling to assist on contracts.

We are looking for a Multi Skilled Operative to join our team you will be carrying out a variety of property maintenance tasks, including carpentry, painting, plastering, brickwork, tiling, silicone/mastic works, groundworks and minor plumbing in Tenanted/Void properties. The role requires a delivering high-quality repairs and installations across domestic properties.

Duties:
  • Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs across tenanted social housing properties

  • Reporting any further works, safeguarding concerns, or property issues beyond scope
  • Deliver excellent customer service while working in residents' homes
  • Accurately record job details, materials used, and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in good working order
  • Manage daily workload efficiently to meet service level targets
Role Criteria:
  • Proven experience in domestic repairs and maintenance across multiple trades (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, decorating)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent customer service skills, with experience working in occupied homes
  • Good understanding of health and safety regulations and safe working practices
  • Ability to use handheld devices or job management systems to record work
