Job summary

Mears Group PLC is recruiting a Multi Skilled Operative to join our responsive repairs team. You will carry out day-to-day repairs across multiple trades in occupied social housing properties, delivering high-quality workmanship with a strong focus on safety and customer service.

The role is permanent and full-time, based across Pontefract, Scunthorpe, Grimsby and surrounding areas, with a salary up to £33,727 per year plus a company van and fuel card.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in repairs and maintenance across multiple trades (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, decorating).
  • Full UK driving licence is required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and maintain effective communication.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs across occupied social housing properties.
  • Replace or repair skirting boards, architraves, and interior doors; install and adjust kitchen units and worktops.
  • Repair plumbing issues, patch plastering, plastering and tiling; paint and decorate to a professional finish.

Salary: £33,727 per annum, plus, company van & fuel card

Hours: Monday to Friday, 42.5 hours per week, 8:00am-5:00pm

We're on the lookout for a talented and versatile Multi-Skilled Operative to join our team, supporting a busy responsive repairs contract. This is a dynamic, hands-on role where you'll be responsible for delivering high-quality repairs and maintenance across a range of trades, ensuring residents' homes are safe, functional, and well cared for.

You'll be working across occupied properties, responding to day-to-day repair requests that cover carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, and more. No two days are the same, and your ability to adapt, problem-solve, and deliver excellent customer service will be key to your success.

Duties
  • Carry out day-to-day responsive repairs across void social housing properties
  • Replacing or repairing skirting boards, architraves, and internal door frames
  • Installing and adjusting kitchen units, worktops, and cupboard doors
  • Repairing or replacing internal doors, handles, locks, and hinges
  • Identifying and fixing minor plumbing issues such as leaks, dripping taps, and blocked sinks
  • Carrying out patch plastering and making good, damaged walls or ceilings
  • Completing wall and floor tiling repairs, including grouting and sealing
  • Painting and decorating to a professional finish following repair works
  • Ensuring all repairs are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard
  • Working in occupied properties with sensitivity to residents’ needs and privacy
  • Participating in out-of-hours emergency repair rota on a rotational basis
  • Attend training sessions when required
  • Reporting any further works, safeguarding concerns, or property issues beyond scope
  • Deliver excellent customer service while working in residents' homes
  • Accurately record job details, materials used, and completion notes using handheld devices or job sheets
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and company vehicle in good working order
  • Manage daily workload efficiently to meet service level targets
Role Criteria
  • Proven experience in repairs and maintenance across multiple trades (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, plastering, tiling, decorating)
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good time management skills
