Job summary

SettleParadigm is recruiting three Multi‑Skilled Operatives to join our Repairs and Maintenance service. This is a predominantly field‑based role, working in residents’ homes and communities across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Office attendance is minimal. You will carry out a wide range of repairs, installations and renewal works across multiple trades, delivering safe, high quality workmanship and positive resident outcomes.

Qualifications

• Experience in property maintenance, repairs or similar environments.
• Strong practical skills in plumbing, carpentry or multiple trades.
• Experience diagnosing and resolving repair issues.
• Experience delivering high-quality, right-first-time repairs.
• Technical knowledge across multiple trades (carpentry, plumbing, groundworks, glazing, plastering, tiling).
• Understanding of responsive repairs operations and service delivery standards.
• Health and safety knowledge and safe systems of work.
• Good communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage workload.

Responsibilities

• Carry out multi-trade repairs, renewals and installations across residential and communal areas.
• Complete responsive repairs, void property works, planned maintenance and follow-up tasks.
• Diagnose issues across multiple trades and determine effective repair solutions.
• Complete adaptations and repairs linked to damp, mould and water ingress where plumbing defects contribute.
• Manage work orders proactively, including follow-on works, cancellations and changes in status.
• Maintain van stock, record material usage and ensure efficient use of resources.
• Communicate effectively with residents, keeping them informed of works and access requirements.
• Ensure work areas are left safe, clean and tidy on completion.
• Drive company vehicles safely and maintain them in a clean, roadworthy condition.

About the role

We are recruiting three Multi‑Skilled Operatives to join our Repairs and Maintenance service. This is a predominantly field‑based role, working in residents’ homes and communities across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire. Office attendance is minimal and usually limited to one‑to‑ones, toolbox talks, training sessions and wider team meetings.

You will carry out a wide range of repairs, installations and renewal works across multiple trades, delivering safe, high quality workmanship and positive resident outcomes. You will work independently and as part of a wider team, using mobile technology to manage work orders, record updates and maintain accurate information throughout the day.

Key responsibilities:

• Carry out multi‑trade repairs, renewals and installations across residential and communal areas

• Complete responsive repairs, void property works, planned maintenance and follow‑up tasks

• Diagnose issues across multiple trades and determine effective repair solutions

• Complete adaptations and repairs linked to damp, mould and water ingress where plumbing defects contribute

• Manage work orders proactively, including follow‑on works, cancellations and changes in status

• Maintain van stock, record material usage and ensure efficient use of resources

• Communicate effectively with residents, keeping them informed of works and access requirements

• Ensure work areas are left safe, clean and tidy on completion

• Drive company vehicles safely and maintain them in a clean, roadworthy condition

What we’re looking for

We are recruiting three new Multi‑Skilled Operatives, each bringing a different core strength to the team:

• One Multi‑Skilled Operative with a Plumbing bias

• One Multi‑Skilled Operative with a Carpentry bias

• One all‑round Multi‑Skilled Operative with broad experience across multiple trades

Regardless of your specialism, you will take pride in delivering excellent workmanship and outstanding customer service.

About you

Essential

• Experience working within property maintenance, repairs or a similar environment

• Strong practical skills in plumbing, carpentry or multiple trades

• Experience diagnosing and resolving repair issues

• Experience delivering high‑quality, right‑first‑time repairs

• Technical knowledge across multiple trades including carpentry, plumbing, groundworks, glazing, plastering, tiling and finishing trades

• Understanding of responsive repairs operations and service delivery standards

• Strong understanding of health and safety legislation and safe systems of work

• Good communication and customer service skills

• Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively

• Competent using PDAs, mobile working tools and repairs management systems

• City and Guilds or NVQ qualification in a relevant trade, or equivalent experience

• Full valid UK driving licence

• Experience working within social housing
