Job summary

Thames Water in Chingford (E4 7PX) is seeking a Mechanical & Electrical Technician to inspect, maintain and repair mechanical and electrical plant across site operations. The role requires a time-served electrical background with mechanical upskilling, and offers a structured training path and on-site working arrangements.

You will work on pumps, 3‑phase motors, control gear and PLCs, with a 38-hour week and a standby rota. Benefits include pension and generous leave.

Qualifications

• Experience in inspecting, maintaining and repairing mechanical and electrical plant.
• Time-served apprenticeship with electrical background and upskilling in mechanical NVQ.
• Knowledge of health and safety requirements on site.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex faults and perform repairs quickly.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Investigate plant failures and perform rapid repairs to minimise downtime.
• Provide technical advice and mentor trainees when required.
• Work on pumps, motors, VSDs, PLCs and associated control gear.
• Participate in standby rota after required training.
