Job summary

Zest is seeking a Multi-Skilled Engineer for the night shift to lead engineering on site, oversee breakdown response, drive maintenance excellence and CI across the factory. You will report to the Engineering Manager and act as the senior engineering presence on shift, guiding performance and hands-on work with the team.

Responsibilities include prioritising maintenance to maximise uptime, fault finding, root cause analysis, and implementing robust PPM schedules with CMMS.

Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing or food production.
• First-class diagnostics on mechanical and electrical systems.
• Experience with PPM, reliability-centred maintenance, and CI techniques.
• Previous leadership or supervisory experience.
• Time-served apprenticeship or formal qualification (NVQ Level 3, HNC, or equivalent).

Responsibilities

• Prioritising maintenance and breakdown activity to maximise uptime
• Acting as the key decision-maker and point of contact on site overnight
• Carrying out fault-finding, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis
• Implementing and optimising PPM schedules, with accurate CMMS and stock control
• Identifying engineering upgrades that improve efficiency, sustainability, and OEE
• Supporting capital projects and new machinery integration
• Working cross-functionally with production and factory management
• Ensuring full compliance with health and safety, including PUWER, LOLER, and DSEAR

Salary: £50,000 - £60,000

Shifts: 4 on 4 off, 3pm to 3am, or Monday to Friday, 5pm to 2am

We're recruiting on behalf of a well-established food manufacturing business for a Multi-Skilled Engineer to lead engineering on nights, driving breakdown response, maintenance excellence, and continuous improvement across site.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you'll be the senior engineering presence on shift, taking full responsibility for team performance and working hands-on alongside your engineers on factory equipment.
