Motorsports - Applied Vehicle Dynamics Team Support Engineer, Leeds, West Yorkshire

Job Description

This role is categorized as hybrid, requiring the successful candidate to report to Concord, NC, at least three times per week.

The Role

To enhance our motorsports program by supporting the use of our simulation toolchain across GM Motorsports-supported series. Responsibilities include providing engineering support for improved on-track performance, collaborating with race teams and engineers on analysis studies using offline and driver-in-loop (DiL) simulations, developing simulation tools, and refining vehicle modeling inputs. The role demands the completion of projects to high standards, on time, and within budget. Proficiency in simulation and a proactive, collaborative approach are essential.

What You’ll Do

  • Support GM Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup series as a key performance engineer.
  • Assist teams in fitting collected data into simulation models.
  • Work with the simulation support team to improve the toolchain and race performance.
  • Provide expertise on simulation functionality and modeling practices.
  • Represent racing team needs in simulation development.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of engineering experience.
  • Over 4 years of professional motorsport experience.
  • Proficiency with data analysis software such as Pi Toolbox, MoTeC i2, and McLaren ATLAS.
  • Knowledge of high-performance vehicle, tire, and aerodynamic modeling.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a dynamic environment, with a strong work ethic and integrity.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% annually.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience with driver-in-loop (DiL) simulators.
  • Proficiency in Dymola/Modelica.
  • Familiarity with C# and Git.
