The Role

We are seeking a Team Simulation Support Engineer to enhance our motorsports program by improving the utilization of our simulation toolchain across GM Motorsports-supported series. The main goal is to provide engineering support that leads to better on-track performance. You will work with race team members and GM support engineers to conduct analysis studies using offline and driver-in-loop (DiL) simulations. Additionally, you will assist in developing and educating offline simulation tools, facilitate feedback to GM simulation development teams, refine vehicle modeling inputs, and help establish baseline simulation settings for on-track events. All projects should be completed to high standards, on time, and within budget. Proficiency in simulation, a proactive approach, and a passion for accurate models are essential.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as a key performance support engineer for GM Motorsports in the NASCAR Cup series.
  • Assist teams in fitting collected data for input into simulation models.
  • Collaborate with the simulation support team to improve and explore methods to enhance the simulation toolchain and race team performance.
  • Provide race teams with expert knowledge on simulation toolchain functionality and modeling practices.
  • Represent racing team needs as a stakeholder in the development of the simulation toolchain.

Additional Job Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of engineering industry experience.
  • 4+ years of professional motorsport experience within a race team setting.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software such as Pi Toolbox, MoTeC i2, and McLaren ATLAS.
  • Knowledge of high-performance vehicle, tire, and aerodynamic modeling techniques.
  • Analytical, customer-focused, structured, with excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multi-task in a dynamic environment with a strong work ethic and integrity.
  • Strong team player with flexible schedule availability and willingness to travel 10% of the time annually.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, or related field.
  • Experience with driver-in-loop (DiL) simulators.
  • Proficiency in Dymola/Modelica within a simulation toolchain.
