Job summary

The Nottingham Building Society is seeking a Head of Mortgage Underwriting to join our Head Office in Nottingham. This hybrid role balances strategic leadership with hands-on oversight of mortgage origination and underwriting.

You will shape strategy, drive robust underwriting standards, and develop a high-performing team while ensuring regulatory compliance and strong governance. Excellent stakeholder management will be essential to success.

Qualifications

• Experience across mortgage origination and underwriting portfolios.
• Strong understanding of regulatory frameworks (MCOB, FCA) and risk controls.
• Proven track record leading high-performing teams and driving change.

Responsibilities

• Shape and deliver mortgage origination and underwriting strategy.
• Lead and develop high-performing teams with a customer/intermediary focus.
• Maintain underwriting standards, ensuring prudent, compliant decisions.
• Drive operational efficiency, service excellence and continuous improvement.
• Use data and performance insights to identify trends, manage risks and improve outcomes.
