Job summary

Somerset Council is recruiting for a mobile library driver to deliver a welcoming, safe and efficient library service across communities in Somerset. You will support customers with memberships, loans and digital resources while ensuring routes run smoothly and the vehicle is well maintained.

The role requires a C1 driving licence, good communication skills and basic IT ability to process transactions and maintain records. Flexible, hybrid working options are available where service needs allow.

Qualifications

• Full UK Category C1 driving licence.
• Experience driving mobile library or similar service is desirable.
• Excellent customer service and communication skills.
• Basic IT skills including using computerised systems for records and transactions.

Responsibilities

• Deliver a safe, reliable and welcoming mobile library service across Somerset.
• Help customers access library services, including memberships, loans, reservations and digital resources.
• Keep the mobile service running by following planned routes and communicating updates.
• Carry out routine vehicle checks, maintain cleanliness and roadworthiness.
