Job summary

Essex County Council is recruiting a part-time Customer Services Assistant for Dunmow Library, with 11 hours per week including Saturdays. The role covers multiple libraries in Uttlesford and requires a driving licence and mobility across the area.

You’ll support with book circulation, signpost customers to services, and help deliver community-focused library experiences while working as part of a dynamic team.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate ability to use IT systems or learn quickly.
• Customer service experience in any area.
• Confidence in speaking to customers and signposting to services.
• Enthusiasm and ideas, enjoys teamwork.
• Driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers at Dunmow Library and mobile within Uttlesford.
• Assist with Rhymetime and family sessions.
• Follow health & safety practices and keep spaces tidy.
• Support library promotions and income-generating activities.
• Help customers use the library catalogue and access full library offer.
• Manage stock circulation, shelving, reservations, fines and memberships.
• Assist with data review to improve customer and staff experience.
• Be a trusted keyholder for opening/closing smaller libraries.
