Job summary

NMS Recruit is seeking an experienced Field Based HGV Technician to join a Service 24 operation based from Sittingbourne, covering breakdowns across Kent and the M25. You will work independently, attending roadside breakdowns and performing fault diagnosis and repairs in the field.

The role involves 7:00–16:00 shifts in Week 1 and Week 2 with 24/7 on-call cover. A monthly bonus (£850) and quarterly bonus (£1000) reward productivity and site performance, plus on-call payments.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualified technician.
• Experience as HGV/HGV mechanic or commercial vehicle technician.
• Full UK driving licence.

Responsibilities

• Attend roadside breakdowns and provide on-site repairs.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults in the field.
• Carry out roadside repairs where possible on a range of HGVs and commercial vehicles.
• Support van and LCV breakdowns when required.
• Record work and parts used accurately.

Job description

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Field Based HGV Technician to join a Service 24 operation based from Sittingbourne, covering breakdowns and call-outs across the Kent and M25 area.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced HGV Technician who enjoys working independently, attending roadside breakdowns and carrying out effective fault diagnosis and repairs in the field.

Working Hours

Week 1:
Monday Friday, 7:00am 4:00pm
Plus 24/7 primary on-call cover

Week 2:
Monday Friday, 7:00am 4:00pm
Plus 24/7 second-line/back-up on-call cover

Salary & Additional Earnings

In addition, you can earn:

• £50 per day when on primary on-call
• £50 per out-of-hours call-out attended between 4:00pm and 6:00am
• Second-line support payments, including £50 per out-of-hours call-out attended
• Monthly bonus of up to £850, based on efficiency, productivity and utilisation targets
• Quarterly bonus of up to £1,000, based on site performance

The Role

As a Field Based HGV Technician, you will be responsible for attending breakdowns and providing roadside technical support to commercial vehicle customers throughout Kent and around the M25.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Attending roadside breakdowns and emergency call-outs
• Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults
• Carrying out repairs at the roadside wherever possible
• Working on a range of HGVs and commercial vehicles
• Supporting van and LCV breakdowns where required
• Carrying out vehicle inspections and identifying defects
• Ensuring vehicles are repaired safely and efficiently
• Providing a professional service to customers while working independently in the field
• Accurately recording work completed and parts used
• Working closely with workshop and Service 24 teams
• Following all health, safety and roadside working procedures

Requirements

• Level 3 qualified technician
• Previous experience working as an HGV Technician / HGV Mechanic / Commercial Vehicle Technician
• Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
• Experience working on vans or LCVs would be highly advantageous
• Ability to work confidently and independently in a field-based environment
• Full UK driving licence
• Strong understanding of commercial vehicle maintenance and repair
