Crown Oil UK is seeking a Mid-Level PHP Developer to join its in-house development team in Bury. You will work on business-critical applications, developing back-end services with PHP 8+ and Laravel, and SPAs with Vue 3.
The role requires strong MySQL, Docker, and CI/CD experience, plus collaboration with peers in code reviews. You’ll contribute to real-time features using Soketi/WebSockets and integrate GraphQL APIs, Microsoft Graph, and related tooling.
We’re looking for a Mid-Level PHP Developer with strong commercial experience in PHP, Laravel and Vue 3 to join our established in-house development team.
This is an on-site role in Bury (BL9). Applicants must already live within a reasonable commuting distance of Bury, Greater Manchester to be considered.
You’ll need:
Strong commercial experience with PHP 8+ and Laravel
Commercial experience with Vue 3, Composition API and SPAs
Strong MySQL experience
Experience writing PHPUnit feature tests using TDD
Experience with Docker
Experience working with CI/CD
Experience working within a collaborative development team with regular code reviews
We’re looking for someone who can get up to speed with our technical environment quickly, with the main learning curve being our business and systems.
You’ll develop, maintain and improve business-critical applications across our group of companies using:

Your role will include:
Building backend services and features using PHP and Laravel
Developing SPAs using Vue 3 Composition API
Working with TypeScript and GraphQL
Writing feature tests using PHPUnit and TDD
Working with MySQL and optimising application performance
Working with Docker and GitHub Actions CI/CD
Developing real-time functionality using Soketi/WebSockets
Building integrations including Microsoft Graph
Using Claude Code and agentic AI tools within the development workflow
Supporting and improving live production systems
Participating in regular code reviews and technical discussions
Commercial experience with TypeScript
Experience developing or integrating GraphQL APIs
Energy sector experience, particularly electricity and gas metering
Experience writing and maintaining Docker images
Experience writing GitHub Actions CI/CD workflows
Experience with Pusher/Soketi WebSockets
Experience using agentic AI development tools
Some proficiency with C# / .NET
You’ll join an established in-house development team of around 11–15 people, working on systems that are critical to the day-to-day operation and growth of the business.
You’ll have ownership of your work, contribute to technical decisions and work directly with colleagues and stakeholders to turn business requirements into well-built technical solutions.

Working arrangement: On-site
Core hours: 9:30am–2:00pm, Monday–Friday
Candidates must already live within commuting distance of Bury, Greater Manchester. This is not a remote role.
