Job summary

JobCubby is seeking a mid-level PHP Developer with strong PHP 8+ and Laravel experience to join our in-house development team in Bury. You’ll work on business-critical applications within a collaborative team, delivering SPAs with Vue 3 and TypeScript.

Key responsibilities include building backend services, writing unit tests with PHPUnit, and integrating GraphQL, Docker, and CI/CD workflows. On-site role with occasional remote option after probation.

Qualifications

• Proven commercial experience with PHP 8+ and Laravel.
• Strong Vue 3 Composition API and SPA development experience.
• Solid MySQL skills and query optimization.
• Experience writing PHPUnit tests and applying TDD.
• Hands-on Docker usage and CI/CD pipelines.
• Collaborative development with regular code reviews.

Responsibilities

We’re looking for a Mid-Level PHP Developer with strong commercial experience in PHP, Laravel and Vue 3 to join our established in‑house development team.

This is an on-site role in Bury (BL9). Applicants must already live within a reasonable commuting distance of Bury, Greater Manchester to be considered.

Essential skills & experience

• Strong commercial experience with PHP 8+ and Laravel
• Commercial experience with Vue 3, Composition API and SPAs
• Strong MySQL experience
• Experience writing PHPUnit feature tests using TDD
• Experience with Docker
• Experience working with CI/CD
• Experience working within a collaborative development team with regular code reviews

What you’ll be doing

You’ll develop, maintain and improve business-critical applications across our group of companies using:

PHP 8.5 - Laravel 13 - Vue 3 - TypeScript - GraphQL - MySQL 8.4 - Docker - GitHub Actions CI/CD - Soketi/WebSockets - Microsoft Graph - Claude Code

Your role will include:

• Building backend services and features using PHP and Laravel
• Developing SPAs using Vue 3 Composition API
• Working with TypeScript and GraphQL
• Writing feature tests using PHPUnit and TDD
• Working with MySQL and optimising application performance
• Working with Docker and GitHub Actions CI/CD
• Developing real-time functionality using Soketi/WebSockets
• Building integrations including Microsoft Graph
• Using Claude Code and agentic AI tools within the development workflow
• Supporting and improving live production systems
• Participating in regular code reviews and technical discussions

Nice to have

• Commercial experience with TypeScript
• Experience developing or integrating GraphQL APIs
• Energy sector experience, particularly electricity and gas metering
• Experience writing and maintaining Docker images
• Experience writing GitHub Actions CI/CD workflows
• Experience with Pusher/Soketi WebSockets
• Experience using agentic AI development tools
• Some proficiency with C# / .NET

About the team

You’ll join an established in‑house development team of around 11-15 people, working on systems that are critical to the day‑to‑day operation and growth of the business.

You’ll have ownership of your work, contribute to technical decisions and work directly with colleagues and stakeholders to turn business requirements into well‑built technical solutions.

Location & working

• Location: Bury, Greater Manchester (BL9)
• Working arrangement: On-site
• Core hours: 9:30am-2:00pm, Monday-Friday
• Following successful completion of probation, there is the option to work from home 1 day per week.
• Candidates must already live within commuting distance of Bury, Greater Manchester. This is not a remote role.
