Laboratory Technician (Microscopy)

37.5 hours a week - Monday to Friday

Job Role

As a Laboratory Technician, you will support the Microscopy Area Supervisor by conducting analytical test methods and reporting results to customers. Your responsibilities include:

  1. Performing daily and weekly instrument checks, calibration, quality control monitoring, and proving method competency.
  2. Identifying instrument performance issues, consulting with management to resolve them, and reporting non-conformities.
  3. Contributing to laboratory accreditation standards such as ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
  4. Conducting experiments following the Laboratory Manager's programme.
  5. Adhering to health and safety guidelines, reporting unsafe conditions, and managing chemical storage safely.
  6. Managing your workload, collaborating with colleagues and the Microscopy Laboratory Manager, and maintaining turnaround times.
  7. Documenting new analytical test methods.

Candidate Requirements

Ideal candidates will:

  • Manage their workload independently and collaborate effectively.
  • Possess Lab/Microscopy experience.
  • Have at least 5 GCSEs Grade C or above, NVQ Level 3, A-levels, or equivalent.
  • Be capable of working safely with laboratory equipment and chemicals.
  • Have basic skills in MS Office or Google Docs/Sheets.
  • Pay attention to detail and be familiar with LIMS.
