Job summary

Wirral University Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the CWMS at the Bromborough site. The role entails rotating through all microbiology sections, handling specimens, and contributing to 24/7 service delivery.

The successful candidate will be HCPC registered with Specialist Portfolio or equivalent and will work in a busy lab, supported by a friendly team and opportunities for continuing professional development.

Qualifications

• HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist with Specialist Portfolio or equivalent.
• Permanent Band 6 role with CWMS.
• Experience working in a 24/7 microbiology service could be advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Rotate through laboratory sections and work areas.
• Specimen reception: check samples against requests and handle high-risk specimens.
• Bacteriology: culture, identification and antimicrobial testing per clinical info.
• Microscopy: operate fluorescence and light/inverted microscopes.
• Serology: perform routine serology for viral diseases (HBV/HIV).
