Job summary

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking a proactive HCPC-registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist to join the Microbiology Department. The post covers 37.5 hours per week across 7 days, with out-of-hours and on-call duties, including late shifts and weekend cover.

The department delivers Microbiology services (serology and molecular) to Worcestershire, handling ~690,000 specimens annually, and operates with ISO accreditation and active staff training and CPD support.

Qualifications

• Registration with HCPC as a Biomedical Scientist is essential.
• IBMS Specialist Portfolio in Bacteriology is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Be responsible for work in the designated section and supervise staff.
• Perform pre-analytical preparation of specimens and data entry into the LIMS with accuracy.
• Analyse potentially infectious samples using specialised procedures and produce high-quality results.
• Troubleshoot and maintain automated systems and liaise with service engineers.
