Job summary

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust's Barnsley Hospital is seeking a Biomedical Science Assistant in Microbiology. This full-time role (37.5 hours) supports diagnostic services across the Pathology Partnership, with NHS AfC Band 2/3 alignment.

Qualifications

• Band 2/3: GCSE Maths and English at C/4 or above or Level 2 qualification.
• Band 3: GCSE Maths/English at C/4+ and Level 3 qualification or IBMS Certificate with lab experience.
• Ability to follow SOPs and work to policies.
• NHS experience (Band 2) and NHS lab experience (Band 3).
• Basic keyboard and IT skills; awareness of Health and Safety.
• Effective communication, written and oral.
• Ability to plan and prioritise allocated work.

Responsibilities

• Deliver scientific/technical procedures under supervision.
• Perform healthcare science activities under indirect supervision.
• Pre-analytical processing of samples: receipt, preparation, processing.
• Store, retrieve and dispose of biological material per procedures.
• Handle queries from Medical/Nursing staff and other users.
• Maintain high scientific and technical standards.
• Promote and maintain education and training.
• Adhere to Trust and departmental policies.
• Maintain clinical records and input test results.
