Job summary

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a Biomedical Science Associate Practitioner (NHS AfC: Band 4) based at Royal Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield. The role provides histology bench support and supports patient care within pathology services.

You will perform specimen processing, staining, IHC and data entry, with planned hours across 8am–8pm, Monday to Friday, with weekend and bank holiday rotas. Training and career development offered.

Qualifications

• Level 4 qualification e.g. NVQ, HNC, BTEC, Apprenticeship or IBMS Certificate of Achievement (Part II) plus extensive laboratory experience Or Foundation Level Degree
• Other relevant courses with regards to H&S, supervision, quality or training
• Experience with a range of laboratory techniques and NHS laboratory settings would be advantageous

Responsibilities

• Operate a wide range of histology equipment safely and accurately
• Embedding of surgical specimens into paraffin wax according to protocol
• Section paraffin material according to protocol
• Perform and understand tinctorial staining techniques
• Perform routine immunohistochemistry techniques
• Orientate and photograph specimens and archive the images
• Safely handle reagents required for histological techniques, including formalin
