Job summary

Practice Plus Group’s Health in Justice team is recruiting a Mental Health Nurse for HMP Wymott, a Category C male prison near Leyland. Role based in the healthcare department; car driver required due to location.

HMP Wymott houses around 1,100 inmates and presents a varied clinical population. You will work within a multidisciplinary team on the wings, carrying out assessments, managing care plans and medication rounds, and delivering evidence-based, compassionate care.

Qualifications

• NMC registration as a Mental Health Nurse.
• Evidence of Continued Professional Development.
• Experience working face to face with patients who have complex mental health needs.

Responsibilities

• Carry out comprehensive assessments within a multi-disciplinary team.
• Initiate and review care plans and develop treatment options.
• Undertake medication rounds and support distressed patients.
• Assess health needs using evidence-based frameworks and risk assess.
• Provide advice, support and information while managing a caseload.
• Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a difference.
• Monitor responses to medications and liaise with prescribers.

About The Role

We have an exciting part time opportunity for a Mental Health Nurse to join our Mental Health team at HMP Wymott, a Category C male prison located in Leyland. Ideally needs to be a car driver due to location of the prison. HMP Wymott has capacity of around 1,100, and has a varied and complex population. You will be working as part of the team and will be based within the healthcare department and be required to work on the prison wings.

• Monday - Friday
• 8am - 4pm

Salary

This position is full time, you’ll receive an annual salary up to £34,428 - £41,659 per annum FTE - depending on experience.

What you’ll be doing

• Work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options
• Undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed
• Assess patient’s health needs using an evidence based framework and be able to risk assess use sound clinical knowledge
• You will work with individuals providing advice, support and information and manage a case load of patients.
• Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a real difference
• You will monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects liaising with prescribers as required.
• Inspire excellence by forging strong links with our partners and stakeholders
• Promote best practice, clinical supervision, evidence based care
• Share knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure safe care, building strong multi-disciplinary teams and supporting each other to do a great job.

Qualifications required
