Job summary

Practice Plus Group is seeking a Qualified Mental Health Nurse to join the Health in Justice team. The role operates 3 x 13 hour shifts (9am–10pm) and includes a comprehensive induction, CPD requirements and regional/national career development.

You will work in prisons and secure settings, lead assessments, manage treatments, and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver high‑quality care and support to patients with complex mental health needs.

Qualifications

  • Qualified Mental Health Nurse with NMC registration.
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development (CPD).
  • Experience with patients with complex mental health conditions.
  • Experience with psychosocial interventions, group work and awareness of substance misuse.

Responsibilities

  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans.
  • Undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have experienced trauma or distress.
  • Assess patients health needs using evidence based framework and perform risk assessments.
  • Provide advice, support and information to individuals and manage a caseload.
  • Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a real difference.
  • Monitor therapeutic responses to medication and liaise with prescribers as required.
  • Inspire excellence by forging strong links with partners and stakeholders.
  • Promote best practice, clinical supervision and evidence based care.
  • Share knowledge and expertise to ensure safe care within a multidisciplinary team.

Hours

This role is 3 x 13 hour shifts with a one hour break per week. 9am - 10pm

Salary

This position is 37.5 hours per week and you’ll receive an annual salary of £48,200 - £54,397 - depending on experience.

Candidates are required to have a Legal right to work in the UK and due to the nature of the role, offers of employment will be subject to additional vetting and security checks.

What you'll be doing
  • Work within a multi-disciplinary team carrying out comprehensive assessments, initiating and reviewing care plans, and developing treatment options
  • Undertake medication rounds, and assess and treat patients who may have undergone traumatic experiences and may be distressed
  • Assess patient’s health needs using an evidence based framework and be able to risk assess use sound clinical knowledge
  • You will work with individuals providing advice, support and information and manage a case load of patients.
  • Deliver non-judgemental care that makes a real difference
  • You will monitor therapeutic responses to medication and potential side effects liaising with prescribers as required.
  • Inspire excellence by forging strong links with our partners and stakeholders
  • Promote best practice, clinical supervision, evidence based care
  • Share knowledge, skills and expertise to ensure safe care, building strong multi-disciplinary teams and supporting each other to do a great job.

Qualifications required

Although not essential ideal applicants would have experience in a hospital, community or prison environment.
