Medical Records Clerk – Bank Only

Department: Patient Access

Band 2 – £12.51 per hour

Hours: 37.5 per week. All MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working.

Contract: FTC/secondment until 31 December 2025.

There is an opportunity to work from home; this will be discussed further at interview.

About the role

As a Medical Records Clerk you will support an efficient and effective Medical Records service. Your duties will include accurate filing and maintenance of records, ensuring timely retrieval, and maintaining systems to support these aims.

Responsibilities
  • Use visual display units and other technical equipment in the section.
  • Prepare files for use at Outpatient Clinics, Inpatient or Day Case stays according to instructions.
  • Deal with requirements for ‘add‑on’ clinics.
  • Collect and deliver patient files around the hospital site.
  • Manage the destruction of patient files in accordance with agreed guidelines.
  • Open and date‑stamp incoming mail.
  • Deal with telephone queries politely and promptly.
  • Answer queries regarding records as required.
  • Update patient demographics from information received (Doctors, Patients, Quality Team).
  • Prepare documents for passing through the scanners – removing staples, paperclips, straightening, inserting headers, and applying bar‑code labels.
  • Scan prepared documents (reports, correspondence, other documentation) into the appropriate patient record efficiently.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a medical or healthcare setting with knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office packages.
  • Exceptional organisational skills and ability to multitask with prioritisation.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, remaining courteous and professional.
  • Excellent keyboard skills.
  • Physical ability to be on feet or walking for long periods.
Additional Information

There is a physical demand that goes along with the job and you need to be prepared for being on your feet/walking for long periods of time.

Upon commencing employment with the Trust, all employees (except Medical & Dental Staff on national terms and conditions) are subject to a probationary period lasting six months with an option to extend for a further six months.
