Job description

We are seeking full-time and part-time Medical Receptionists to join our team at the surgery, due to our continued increase in call volume and new patient registrations. This role involves 95% phone work and a small amount of administrative duties related to calls.

The desirable candidate would have:

  • Call Centre experience
  • Ability to work set shifts and days according to Surgery requirements, including a minimum of 3 half days
  • A positive can-do attitude and good team working skills
  • Experience in General Practice Reception is an advantage but not essential
  • Experience with EMIS is an advantage but not essential
  • Commitment to a full 2-week training programme upon acceptance of the role

Responsibilities include:

  • Receiving, assisting, and directing patients to appropriate services or healthcare professionals courteously and efficiently
  • Providing general assistance to the practice team and projecting a positive, professional, and friendly image to patients and visitors, in person or via telephone
  • Maintaining confidentiality when dealing with patients and medical documentation
Main duties of the job
  • Greeting and directing patients arriving for appointments
  • Handling telephone requests and inquiries
  • Processing repeat prescription requests
  • Scheduling appointments with healthcare professionals
  • Processing requests for home visits
  • Taking and delivering messages
  • Processing non-NHS claim forms and private referrals
  • Collecting fees for non-NHS services
  • Updating patient records
  • Informing patients of test and investigation results
  • Filing medical information and maintaining records
  • Testing the clarity of telephone messages according to practice procedures
  • Securing premises and setting alarms at close of day
  • Receiving specimens and delivering them to collection points
  • Performing other essential duties to ensure smooth practice operations, such as tidying the workspace and assisting doctors

Job responsibilities

As a busy, forward-thinking practice with approximately 33,000 patients across four sites, we are seeking dedicated Medical Receptionists to join our team. We are a recognized training practice within a Primary Care Network, known for collaborative work, training, and personal development.

Shifts will be across all four sites, Monday to Friday, totaling 37.5 hours per week. Candidates should be able to work set shifts and a minimum of 3 half days, with experience in call centres, customer service, and medical reception being advantageous.
