Job summary

York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant for the Blood Sciences reception at York Hospital. You will join a friendly team, ensuring timely, high‑quality service for patients and service users.

The role includes data entry, sample prep and loading analysers, with 24/7 shift work including weekends and nights. Full training will be provided; NHS Pension, generous annual leave, relocation support and development opportunities are among the benefits

Qualifications

• Good general education and excellent communication skills.
• Ability to input data accurately and learn new tasks.
• Basic computer literacy; NHS/pathology lab experience desirable but not required.
• Willingness to work a 24/7 shift rota including weekends, evenings and nights.

Responsibilities

• Receive samples from hospital and GP practices.
• Input patient data and test requests into the laboratory system.
• Prepare samples for analysis.
• Load samples onto analysers.
• Respond to queries from medical staff and other service users.
• Carry out housekeeping and administrative tasks.
