Job summary

Kingston Hospital is seeking a proactive Equipment Library Assistant to support the Trust’s clinical areas with medical device handling, cleaning and checks. You will work with Clinical Engineering to maintain devices and uphold safety standards across hospital sites.

Training will be provided in equipment maintenance, RFID/e-Quip systems, and audits. This role requires on-site work and occasional weekend coverage as part of a rota.

Qualifications

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritise workload and work independently.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Good IT skills including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Experience using Microsoft PowerPoint and Teams.
• Minute taking and document preparation experience.

Responsibilities

• Supporting the daily operations of the Equipment Library loan service, ensuring efficient coordination.
• Ensure timely delivery and collection of medical devices across clinical areas to support patient care.
• Perform cleaning and basic maintenance of returned equipment in compliance with Infection Control and Health & Safety policies.
• Support Clinical Engineering in tracking, maintaining, and servicing medical devices to ensure optimal performance.
• Collaborate with the Clinical Engineering Department to ensure that equipment meets clinical standards and requirements.
• Perform routine safety checks and functional tests on medical devices to verify they are ready for use.
• Maintain accurate records of all equipment serviced, including repair histories and usage data.
• Assist in the assessment of equipment for potential upgrades, replacements, or decommissioning.
• Support training of staff on the correct usage and care of medical equipment, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and protocols.
• Utilize RFID and e-Quip systems to accurately track equipment locations and update maintenance records.
• Maintain a consistent 2-week turnaround for medical equipment by accurately updating records in the e-Quip database.
