Job summary

Syntech Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Mechanical Inspector in Woking, Surrey. The role covers inspecting machined, fabricated, and purchased components, performing first-off, in-process and final inspections, and generating FAIRs.

You’ll program and operate CMM equipment and maintain accurate inspection records in the ERP system. The ideal candidate has 3+ years in mechanical inspection, strong GD&T and drawing interpretation skills, and experience with CMMs and manual inspection tools.

Qualifications

• 3+ years as Mechanical Inspector in manufacturing.
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Good understanding of GD&T.
• Experience using manual inspection equipment: micrometers, verniers, height gauges, DTIs, bore gauges.
• CMM programming and/or operating experience; ability to produce FAIRs.

Responsibilities

• Inspect incoming machined, fabricated and purchased components.
• Perform first-off, in-process and final inspection of precision parts and assemblies.
• Conduct dimensional, visual and functional inspections.
• Program and operate CMM equipment.
• Produce First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and related documentation.
• Complete inspection reports, quality documentation and control plans.
• Support supplier quality investigations and first shipment inspections.
• Raise and document non-conformances and assist with root cause investigations.

Mechanical Inspector

£40,000 - £45,000 starting salary

Location: Woking, Surrey (commutable from Guildford, Farnborough, Camberley, Aldershot, Bracknell, Leatherhead, Weybridge and surrounding areas)

Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:30am-4:00pm (40 hours per week) with flexible start and finish times

Bonus: Monthly production bonus + overtime opportunities

Duration: Permanent

What you’ll be doing:

• Inspecting incoming machined, fabricated and purchased components
• Carrying out first‑off, in‑process and final inspection of precision parts and assemblies
• Performing dimensional, visual and functional inspections
• Programming and operating CMM equipment
• Producing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs)
• Completing inspection reports, quality documentation and control plans
• Supporting supplier quality investigations and first shipment inspections
• Raising and documenting non‑conformances
• Assisting with root cause investigations and corrective actions
• Maintaining accurate inspection records within the ERP system

What we’re looking for:

• At least 3 years’ experience as a Mechanical Inspector within manufacturing
• Strong ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
• Good understanding of GD&T
• Experience using manual inspection equipment including micrometers, verniers, height gauges, DTIs and bore gauges
• Previous CMM programming and/or operating experience
• Experience completing FAIR documentation
• Precision engineering or low-volume manufacturing experience would be advantageous
• Aberlink CMM experience would be beneficial but not essential
