Job summary

Orion Electrotech is seeking a Mechanical Inspector in West Byfleet to ensure parts meet engineering drawings, customer requirements and quality standards. You will inspect components at incoming, in-process and final stages, generating FAIRs and quality documentation.

The role requires hands-on inspection of high-precision parts, with experience in CMMs and metrology equipment, and a keen eye for detail. Competitive salary and extensive benefits are offered.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out incoming inspection of machined, fabricated, moulded and purchased components.
  • Perform in-process and final inspection of sub-assemblies and finished products.
  • Produce First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and related quality documentation.
  • Conduct first-off and batch inspections and raise non-conformances.
  • Support root cause investigations and supplier quality initiatives.

Are you an experienced Mechanical Inspector looking for a role where quality really matters?

We're supporting the search for a skilled Mechanical Inspector to join a growing manufacturing environment, working with high-precision components and assemblies. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a hands‑on inspection role and takes pride in maintaining exceptional quality standards throughout the production process.

The Mechanical Inspector role

You'll be responsible for carrying out inspection activities throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring components and assemblies meet engineering drawings, customer requirements, and quality standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Incoming inspection of machined, fabricated, moulded and purchased components.
  • In-process and final inspection of sub-assemblies and finished products.
  • Dimensional, visual and functional inspections using a variety of metrology equipment.
  • Producing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and quality documentation.
  • Conducting first-off and batch inspections.
  • Raising non-conformances and supporting root cause investigations.
  • Supporting supplier quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience within a mechanical inspection role
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • A strong understanding of GD&T
  • Experience using inspection equipment such as micrometers, verniers, height gauges, bore gauges, DTIs and thread gauges.
  • Experience operating and programming CMMs.
  • Experience producing inspection reports and FAIR documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to quality.
Desirable for the Mechanical Inspector role
  • Aberlink CMM experience.
  • Optical or non-contact measurement experience
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • Background in precision engineering or low-volume, high-complexity manufacturing.
