Job summary

Orion Electrotech seeks an experienced Mechanical Inspector for a West Byfleet site in a permanent role. You will inspect high-precision components and assemblies, ensuring conformance to engineering drawings, customer requirements and quality standards.

You will use micrometers, verniers, height gauges and CMMs, produce FAIRs and QA documentation, and support continuous improvement initiatives. Excellent benefits include a monthly bonus and onsite facilities.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years in a mechanical inspection role.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Strong GD&T knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Perform incoming, in-process and final inspections of machined, fabricated, moulded and purchased components.
  • Create First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and quality documentation.
  • Raise non-conformances and support root cause investigations.
  • Contribute to supplier quality activities and continuous improvement.

Are you an experienced Mechanical Inspector looking for a role where quality really matters?

We're supporting the search for a skilled Mechanical Inspector to join a growing manufacturing environment, working with high-precision components and assemblies. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys a hands-on inspection role and takes pride in maintaining exceptional quality standards throughout the production process.

The Mechanical Inspector role

You'll be responsible for carrying out inspection activities throughout the product lifecycle, ensuring components and assemblies meet engineering drawings, customer requirements, and quality standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Incoming inspection of machined, fabricated, moulded and purchased components.
  • In-process and final inspection of sub-assemblies and finished products.
  • Dimensional, visual and functional inspections using a variety of metrology equipment.
  • Producing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) and quality documentation.
  • Conducting first-off and batch inspections.
  • Raising non-conformances and supporting root cause investigations.
  • Supporting supplier quality activities and continuous improvement initiatives.
About You

To be successful in this role, you'll ideally have:

  • A minimum of 3 years' experience within a mechanical inspection role
  • The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications
  • A strong understanding of GD&T
  • Experience using inspection equipment such as micrometers, verniers, height gauges, bore gauges, DTIs and thread gauges.
  • Experience operating and programming CMMs.
  • Experience producing inspection reports and FAIR documentation.
  • Excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to quality.
Desirable for the Mechanical Inspector role
  • Aberlink CMM experience.
  • Optical or non-contact measurement experience
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001.
  • Background in precision engineering or low-volume, high-complexity manufacturing.
