Job description

Job Title: Mechanical Fitter

SALARY: £40-50,000 inclusive of overtime

CLOSING DATE: 13th May 2025

We are seeking a Mechanical Fitter to join our team within the Severn Trent Engineering contract in Derbyshire, Mansfield, and Nottingham areas.

The role involves working independently or as part of a team, including electrical craftsmen, to provide support through planned and reactive maintenance, as well as new plant installations and upgrades under the framework contracts managed by the framework manager. The ideal candidate will be mechanically qualified with additional skills and will also support the wider engineering team when required.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Comply with HIS/STW SHEQ procedures
  • Perform PPM and RCM activities as per site schedules
  • Conduct planned defect repairs on Mechanical equipment within the HIS Service scope
  • Apply and remove mechanical isolations following PTW systems
  • Perform fault finding activities
  • Identify opportunities for engineering and process control improvements
  • Work with drawings, install, and commission new equipment
  • Diagnose and repair plant breakdowns
  • Operate workshop equipment and tools
  • Complete all documentation, reports, and records accurately
  • Provide professional support to the client and engineering team
  • Implement continuous improvements and innovations
  • Ensure work is completed to high standards
  • Communicate progress and issues with clients and the Framework Manager
  • Promote a proactive safety culture to achieve zero harm
  • Assist in delivering projects on time
Candidate Requirements:
  • Served Apprenticeship or equivalent with at least 2 years of experience working on mechanical plant and installations
  • Understanding of relevant regulations and legislation
  • Experience in fault diagnostics and repair solutions
  • Ability to undertake and pass Level 3 Confined Space training
  • Strong communication skills at all levels
  • Willingness to undertake site inductions and safety training
  • Rigging, slinging, and FLT driving skills and qualifications are preferred
  • UK Driving Licence with C1 category (3500kg - 7500kg)
