Job summary

The CIBSE Journal is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer in Stevenage to take ownership of product development and improvements across mechanical and electrical considerations.

The role focuses on designing panels, enclosures, brackets and sheet-metal components, producing detailed 3D CAD models and drawings, and driving concepts through to manufacture with close collaboration with electrical and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience as a Mechanical Design Engineer.
• Strong design-focused background with experience taking products from concept through to manufacture.
• Experience with electrical/mechanical products, enclosures or panels would be advantageous.
• Experience designing lighting control panels would be highly beneficial.
• Strong 3D CAD and engineering drawing skills.
• Excellent attention to detail.
• Strong communicator who can work effectively with electrical and manufacturing teams.
• Comfortable working across both mechanical and electrical considerations.
• Able to take ownership of projects and work with a high level of autonomy.

Responsibilities

• Design panels, enclosures, brackets, fixings and sheet-metal components.
• Produce detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings.
• Develop new designs from concept through to manufacture.
• Work closely with electrical engineers to accommodate switches, wiring, controls and electrical components.
• Review existing products and implement design improvements.
• Ensure designs are practical, cost-effective and suitable for manufacture and assembly.
• Support bespoke and customer-specific design requirements.
• Liaise with manufacturing, suppliers and customers on technical and design queries.
• Take ownership of projects and contribute to the continued development of the company's product range.
