Job summary

CIBSE Journal is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to join a Midlands-based engineering and manufacturing business. The role focuses on designing and delivering bespoke production equipment from concept through to build, with hands-on leadership and mentorship within a small team.

You will use Inventor/AutoCAD to create 3D models, drawings and documentation, while ensuring compliance with UKCA/CE and machinery standards. The position offers growth and technical responsibility.

Qualifications

• 5+ years experience in a Mechanical Design Engineering role.
• Strong background in machine design and manufacturing.
• Excellent CAD skills with Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.
• Understanding of GD&T and engineering drawing standards.

Responsibilities

• Design bespoke mechanical plant, machinery and production equipment from concept to completion.
• Produce detailed 3D designs using Autodesk Inventor.
• Create manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings and technical documentation.
• Design and develop pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• Lead technical discussions and design reviews.
• Mentor other Mechanical Designers and liaise with customers and suppliers.
• Support project planning, costing, quoting and procurement.
• Manage projects against timescales and budgets.
