Mechanical Building Services Engineer – M&E Systems

Job summary

BGIS is seeking a Mechanical-bias Building Services Engineer to oversee M&E plant on site in the City of London. You will perform routine PPM tasks, handle reactive works, and manage subcontractors to sustain continuous operation of critical systems.

Knowledge of air conditioning, UPS, generators, and LV systems is advantageous. You will operate Permit to Work and ensure safe practices, maintain accurate records, and support the client with a professional service.

Responsibilities

• Ensure routine PPM is carried out to M&E plant according to site task schedules.
• Complete reactive tasks and highlight improvements; includes concessionary stores and fabric items.
• Manage sub-contractor performance; approve work and ensure safe operation on site.
• Operate Permit to Work system per BGIS procedures and client requirements.
• Rectify plant faults quickly to keep systems in serviceable order.
• Ensure spares are available; provide parts lists and remedial timescales.
• Document reactive/breakdown work and pass to contract administrator promptly.
• Prepare and use Method Statements and Risk Assessments for safe tasks.
• Build good working relationships with BGIS staff, subcontractors and client reps.
• Provide a safe, PPE-compliant working environment and maintain professional image.
• Lock and keep all BGIS plant rooms clean and secure.
• Supervise and monitor subcontractors on site during maintenance.
• Action assigned tasks and ensure H&S compliance and KPI/SLA adherence.
• Keep Maximo or similar CMMS up to date; close tickets with accurate data.
• Any other task as directed by Site management; raise near-miss reports and risk assessments.
