Job summary

BGIS is seeking a Mechanical-bias Maintenance Engineer (plumber/plumbing preferred) for our Central London site at Trafalgar Square. You will maintain M&E systems, monitor the BMS, and carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and reactive work to ensure reliable building operation.

The role requires hands-on technical knowledge, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work with subcontractors and client representatives, with a focus on safety and accurate record-keeping in systems

Qualifications

• Formal training in mechanical systems (City & Guilds or NVQ).
• Strong knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
• Experience maintaining pumps, valves and pipework.
• Ability to diagnose faults in chillers, boilers and AHUs.
• Familiarity with Building Management Systems (BMS) and safety permits.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and manage the BMS to maintain internal conditions.
• Lead investigations into environmental conditions and faults.
• Carry out PPM and reactive maintenance on M&E plant.
• Diagnose issues with air conditioning, generators, LV systems.
• Ensure health and safety procedures and permits to work.
• Maintain maintenance records (e.g., Maximo) promptly.
• Supervise subcontractors and BGIS-standards compliance.
• Keep plant rooms secure, clean and organized.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives.
