Job Description:

We have a great opportunity for a career-minded individual to join our waste team as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician. Your role will be to ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works operates safely and efficiently through proactive and reactive maintenance. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.

You will work in a multi-discipline team, responsible for scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment, in compliance with company procedures to minimize plant breakdowns.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Investigate plant failures and carry out repairs efficiently to avoid process interruptions.
  2. Diagnose and repair complex faults during incidents.
  3. Provide technical advice, training, or support for trainees as needed.
  4. Work on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, centrifuges, pumps, control gear, VSDs, valves, measurement systems, PLCs, VSDs, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
  5. Participate in standby rota following the relevant training.

Base Location: Crossness – Abbey Wood, Southeast London - SE2 9AQ.
Working hours: 38 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 3:36 pm, plus standby rota with additional pay.
Tools, PPE, and a van provided when on duty and on call.

Candidate requirements:
  • Time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems in a multi-skilled capacity. Electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering, with mechanical NVQ2/3 is crucial.
  • Mechanical qualification to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely.
  • Experience working on large industrial plant equipment beneficial.
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues.
  • Physical fitness for confined spaces work, with training.
  • Valid driving license; tools and vehicle provided.
