Job description

About the role:

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Technician to join our team at our Camberley Sewage Treatment Works, GU15 3YL.


As the successful candidate, you will ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.


Working within the maintenance team, you will follow robust planned maintenance, engage in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates year-round.

Responsibilities:
  • Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance on mechanical and electrical equipment to minimize plant breakdowns.
  • Investigating plant failures and performing repairs efficiently to prevent process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults.
  • Providing technical advice, referencing up-to-date technical knowledge, and supporting or training technical trainees if needed.
  • Working on equipment such as pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, controls, electronic control systems like VSDs, automatic valves, penstocks, flow, level, pressure measurement, PLCs, variable speed drives, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
  • Participating in a standby rota, following relevant training.

Location & Working Pattern:

Camberley STW - GU15 3YL. 38 hours/week, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm. Plus standby & overtime opportunities, potentially increasing earnings by £8,000 - £10,000.

Candidate Requirements:
  • Time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems in a multi-skilled capacity.
  • Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering, with upskill qualifications in mechanical NVQ2/3.
  • Mechanical upskilling is preferred to enable inspection, maintenance, fault diagnosis, testing, installation, modification, or repair of plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Knowledge of health and safety standards is crucial.
  • Physical fitness required to work in confined spaces, with appropriate training.
  • A valid driving license; all necessary equipment provided.
