Job description

About the role:

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Mechanical and Electrical Technician to join our team at our Camberley Sewage Treatment Works, GU15 3YL.

As the successful candidate, you will ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.

Working within the maintenance team, you will follow robust planned maintenance, engage in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure continuous plant operation.

What you’ll be doing as the Mechanical & Electrical Technician
  1. Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimise plant breakdowns.
  2. Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs efficiently to prevent process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults and performing repairs during incidents.
  3. Providing technical advice, referencing up-to-date technical knowledge, and supporting or training technical trainees as needed.
  4. Working on equipment such as pumps, control gear, 3-phase motors, starters, controls, electronic control systems like VSDs, automatic valves, penstocks, measurement devices, PLCs, variable speed drives, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
  5. Participating in a standby rota following relevant training.
Base Location:

Camberley STW - GU15 3YL.

Working Pattern:

38 Hours, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm. Plus standby & overtime opportunities, increasing earnings by up to £8,000 - £10,000.

All PPE and tools are provided.

What you should bring to the role
  • Time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems in a multi-skilled capacity.
  • Previous experience in an electrical apprenticeship, ONC/HNC in engineering, NVQ, or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering, with upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3.
  • Mechanical upskilling is preferred to allow inspection, maintenance, fault diagnosis, testing, installation, modification, or repair of mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
  • If experienced in only mechanical or electrical work, we aim to develop dual-skilled capabilities.
  • Knowledge of health and safety issues is crucial.
  • Physical fitness is required, including training for working in confined spaces.
  • A valid driving license; all necessary equipment provided.
