Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Tobacco Dependency Advisor for the Maternity service. The role focuses on engaging pregnant patients and families to stop smoking, providing tailored support to improve pregnancy outcomes and long‑term health.

The post collaborates with the tobacco dependency team to deliver the Saving Babies' Lives Care Bundle, offering training, awareness sessions, and a smoke‑free agenda across the Trust.

Qualifications

• Level 3 Healthcare qualification or equivalent.
• NCSCT Practitioner Training including Smoking and Pregnancy or willingness to undertake within 6 months.
• GCSE at grade 3/C or Functional Skills level 2 in Maths and English.
• Immunisation administration training.

Responsibilities

• Provide support through pregnancy and post-natal period using motivational interviewing, CO monitoring and NRT.
• Prioritise, implement and evaluate patient care in line with Trust policies and guidelines.
• Ensure referrals to the Tobacco Dependency Team are completed promptly.
• Work with the Tobacco Dependency Midwife to ensure staff have correct equipment and CO training.
